New to Cleveland: A Guide to (Re)-Discovering the City.
Local Artists, Julia Kuo & Justin Glanville, have collaborated to hold your hand through the city with their new book, “New to Cleveland. A guide to (re)discovering the city”. 100% Local! Written, designed, and printed in Cleveland.
This book is a must if you’re new to the city or a Cleveland native. It depicts each neighborhood down to shopping destinations, restaurants, theaters, transportation, education, metro-parks and much, much more. It highlights how many merchants, mostly local, are seeing opportunity in the city neighborhoods and performing their craft to the public. “Since 2008 alone, a cadre of bike shops, clothing stores, bakeries and gift stores have opened in Tremont, Detroit Shoreway, Ohio City, North Collinwood and Downtown, with more on the way in University Circle.” Cleveland is really, really cool. Thanks for reminding us.
These books are available at our shop for $29.99.
Featured Artist: Chagrin Valley Soap
Chagrin Valley Soap & Salve is an eco-friendly, family owned and operated small business located in the Chagrin Valley in Northeastern Ohio.
“Our mission is to provide you with truly natural and certified organic handmade skin care products made from simple nourishing ingredients each of which does something wonderful and different for your skin. Nothing artificial, nothing synthetic, no GMO’s, just wholesome natural ingredients you can trust. Our products are cruelty free, biodegradable and minimally packaged.”
Native Cleveland carries a small but good portion of these organically certified* products. Below lists the products we’re currently carrying and perks of using a 100% natural product on your skin.
Cucumber Lime Yogurt Bar-A facial for your whole body with a yummy fresh lime scent. Made with organic yogurt, naturally rich in Alpha hydroxy acid, that removes dead skin cells, moisturizes and rejuvenate the complexion. Cucumbers, said to be used by Cleopatra, have a soothing, tightening, anti-itching and refreshing effect on the skin and are often used in moisturizing and anti-age creams. Reading up some consumer feedback says that it’s also helped treat oily skin and large pores.
Patchouli Herb Soap- Skin-loving ingredients like shea butter and unrefined hempseed oil, rich in essential fatty acids (Omega 3 & Omega 6) and gamma linolenic fatty acid (GLA), create an emollient rich soap. Essential oils of stimulating rosemary, and sensuous lavender and patchouli, offer an earthy herbal scent and add skin balancing, toning, and soothing qualities.
Lavender & Rosemary Soap- Lavender-infused oils, organic lavender flowers, lavender essential oil and creamy coconut milk make a spectacular soap with a silky lather! The liquid oils are steeped in lavender so that its emollient, softening, and moisturizing benefits become incorporated into the oils. Lavender essential oil soothes the mind and spirit while rosemary essential oil wakes and refreshes. Consumer feedback at NATIVE say it’s cleared their skin tremendously on the face and chest area.
Sea Salt and Seaweed Spa Soap- The minerals in sea water, also found in mineral-rich sea salt, promote healthy skin. Salt rubs have been used for centuries for cleansing and revitalizing dry skin. This unusual soap containing 50% salts, moisturizing Shea butter and nourishing mineral rich seaweed, deeply moisturizes for silky smooth skin with a healthy glow. The essential oil blend is uplifting and refreshing. Some even say it’s good for removing impurities, such as scarring.
Organic Cream Deodorants- Chagrin Valley’s deodorants are not antiperspirants and will not clog pores. Soothing, moisturizing, organic ingredients absorb quickly, leave no greasy residue and help you stay fresh naturally. Essential oils were chosen for their lovely scent as well as their ability to help combat odor.
Whipped Cocoa Butter- A luscious body cream with a silky smooth texture that melts into your skin. The delicious aroma of cocoa butter adds to this natural creamy treat for all your dry skin places. Pregnant women across the globe know the benefits of natural Cocoa Butter on their bellies to help prevent and minimize stretch marks–a great pregnant belly butter!
Whipped Shea Butter- A blend of organic virgin shea butter and skin nourishing oils whipped into a luscious cream that penetrates deep to soothe, heal and pamper your skin. Virgin Shea Butter, naturally extracted from Shea nuts, has natural smoky, nutty scent. It promotes growth, aids in skin elasticity, helps calm inflamed skin and soothes dry, cracked skin. Use daily for intensive treatment for dry, dehydrated or mature skin.
Massage Candles- Natural spa candle, all over moisturizing body balm and warming massage oil all in one. Light our luxurious candle to create an enchanting ambiance and watch as it melts into a rich, warm, emollient body oil. A nourishing blend of butters and oils melt at a low temperature to create a warm moisturizer that absorbs into your skin within minutes. Use for an intensive treatment for hands, elbows, feet or any dry skin places, a warm massage oil or a soothing cream for manicures and pedicures. The aroma-therapeutic scents are subtle to insure the proper dilution of essential oils for skin use.
“Inspired by our love of nature, we use organic herbs, seeds, flowers, vegetables, fragrant spices, fruits, purifying clays, and pure botanical essential oils for their exceptional skin care benefits and to provide natural color, aromatherapy, texture, or gentle exfoliation. Nothing artificial, nothing synthetic, no GMO’s, just wholesome ingredients you can trust.”

Suzanne Cofer-Encaustic Cleveland image blocks
Installed in our little shop now are CLEVELAND encaustic image blocks! Prior to the Cleveland blocks were Suzanne’s Tokyo influence blocks while she was teaching there but it’s such a neat concept for photographers and photography lovers that I thought Cleveland shots would be a lovely addition to anyone’s home who’s an avid, Cleveland lover. She was mentioned this month on iheartcleveland.com’s blog in which they featured “13-days of Giveaways” during December, and one of her blocks were included in the project. I’m thinking about the “Cocoa, Milk, Sugar” block for myself, just because it’ll be a reminder to get my cocoa fix at my favorite Malley’s location on my way to work every day!
